Data Privacy Basics for Classroom AI Tools

Before adopting a new AI tool in your classroom, it’s worth taking a few minutes to understand what student data it collects and how it’s used.

Questions worth asking

• Is the tool compliant with relevant student privacy regulations in your region?
• Does it retain student data, and for how long?
• Is student input used to train underlying models?
• Can data be deleted on request?

Many districts maintain an approved-tools list for exactly this reason — it’s worth checking before adopting something new on your own.
