Personalized Study Plans Help 8th Graders Cut Blank Answers and Raise LGS Mock Exam Scores
A private middle school used AI-supported, learning-style-matched study plans to help 8th graders prepare for Turkey’s High School Entrance Exam (LGS) — with measurable gains in mock exam performance and a sharp drop in unanswered questions.
Background
The client is a private middle school preparing 8th-grade students for the LGS (Liselere Geçiş Sistemi) exam — the national high school entrance exam that determines admission to Turkey’s top high schools. For these students, exam performance carries real stakes: the difference of a few points can mean the difference between admission to a top-tier school and not.
Challenge
The school’s goal was straightforward to state and hard to execute: help every student reach their highest possible score across all exam subjects. But 8th graders don’t arrive at exam prep as a uniform group — they differ in which subjects they’re weak in, which question types trip them up, and how they learn best. A one-size-fits-all review schedule risked wasting study time on material students had already mastered, while under-serving the specific gaps that were actually costing them points.
Solution
Personalized study plan exam results
Instead of a single shared study plan, the school built an individualized plan for each student covering every subject on the exam, matched to that student’s learning style. Rather than generic “study more” guidance, each student’s plan pointed to specific lessons and specific gaps — turning exam prep into a targeted process rather than a broad one.
Implementation
Mock LGS exams were the engine of the process. After each mock exam, results were broken down by subject and by learning objective within that subject — not just an overall score, but a map of exactly where each student’s wrong and blank answers were concentrated.
Subject teachers then worked directly with students on those specific gaps, in short, regular sessions rather than long, infrequent review blocks. This kept the feedback loop tight: identify the gap in a mock exam, address it with the relevant subject teacher soon after, and carry that improvement into the next mock exam.
Results
Across successive mock exams, students showed their highest individual performance yet. Two patterns stood out in particular:
- The number of blank (unanswered) questions dropped noticeably as students built confidence in areas that had previously been weak points.
- Score improvements followed as a natural consequence of closing specific gaps, rather than from generic additional study time.

Limitations / What Didn’t Change
Personalized content and tighter feedback loops solved the material problem — making sure each student was working on the right thing. They didn’t solve the attention problem. Eighth graders are young teenagers navigating one of the more distraction-prone stretches of adolescence, and no study plan, however well-matched, removes the need for teachers to actively manage focus and engagement in the room. The tools made study time more effective; they didn’t make it self-sustaining. That still depends on the teacher.
